Ground

Groundwork is important for vaulters of all levels. The work we do on the ground transfers to the barrel and ultimately the horse. It is important for both the vaulter and the horse to warm up their bodies properly to avoid injury and to allow for proper athletic development.

Barrel

Barrel work builds the foundation for vaulting. Vaulting has inherent risks, so participants need to know exactly how to move to avoid injuries. Vaulters need to be sensitive to the horse as their vaulting partner. With barrel work, vaulters learn to be sensitive in their landing, transitions and execution of their performances. Barrel competitions are also a part of vaulting, it is a place where vaulters can perform moves that they are not yet ready to bring to the horse.

Horse

In vaulting, the horse is not simply a tool or piece of equipment, the horse is our friend, partner and a member of our team. Vaulters are required to assist in the ground handling of the horse both before and after their lessons. This ground work builds the trust and relationship between the vaulters and the horse. Vaulters also learn about some of the work and care that are involved in caring for a horse through their ground handling.
